Major's Story

Life My "bio": by Jimmy Willis My "bio", huh? Where does one begin when he writes his "bio"? Well, since this is targeted towards former students at NBHS, I guess that's as good a place as any to start. After leaving good ole' New Bern High and not wanting to take "orders" anymore, I enlisted in the US Army Security Agency ... duh? Wrong move, at least for awhile. I actually enjoyed most of my enlistment however, served in Europe and South East Asia, came home and got married, was stationed all over the US at different bases and for military exercises and held a Top Secret Security Clearance for the seven years I was in the military. The military changed when the war ended though, so we got out and moved to W. Virginia where I managed a small branch of a consummer finance company. We had a son ... Major Thomas Willis who is currently working on his masters at UC Chico in California (off and on), happy, still not married but maybe soon, and keeps me informed of his adventures (rafting down the Grand Canyon, mountain climbing, sky diving, sea kayaking, etc.); but he still doesn't know what he wants to be when he grows up. lol We left W. Virginia after a few years and moved to Northern California where I attended college and got my degree. We divorced after 12 years of marriage, my wife stayed in California and I moved to Missouri with my girlfriend (12 years my junior and the reason for my divorce of course), got married, lived in Missouri for only a year and then moved back to Northern California. She joined the Air Force and I became a maintenance supervisor for a commercial drum reconditioning plant. We had two sons ... James Robert Willis who is in the US NAVY and attending a nuclear school in SC and will be "sailing on a sub" when he graduates and who also will be getting married in two short weeks ... and Joshua Andrew Willis who just graduated from high school and will b...Expand for more
e attending a nearby junior college to get his core classes out of the way before moving on up to a good engineering school (at least that's the "plan".) lol This time SHE found someone new (seven years HER junior ... how ironic, huh?) and we divorced. I moved to Northern Arkansas and welded for a year ... sixteen stories up and a hell-of-a-way to make a living ... then I met my childhood sweetheart at a barbeque here in East Texas. She was a divorcee, me too, and neither of us ever thought we would ever marry again; but we did and we've been married for almost eight years now. She's a retired postal worker, gardens, and designs and sells beaded jewelry. We bought her folks' house and five acres of their property when they passed away three years ago. So now we have cows, a pool, a horse named Frank and a cat named Frosty. And what am I doing these days? I gave up motorcycles and sailboats for horses and guns. I'm a reserve deputy and member of the local sheriff's posse'. I garden, make one-of-a-kind chess boards and clocks in my shop, ride my horse, pet my cat, and love my wife. I finally found what it was that I was looking for all those years and it was worth the wait! I'm happy, content, respected, loved and in love, and it's great. I wish everyone could be as happy as I am at this point in my life. I still "work for a living." I build cabinets for luxury jet aircraft. I had my own business for awhile here in East Texas but the "feast or famine" routine was too hard on us so now I work for a large completion center in Dallas ... a LONG commute every day but it's worth it. I love what I do ... to me, it's not work but play ... and I want to continue to PLAY for many more years to come! Well, that's MY "bio" I guess but I'd really like to hear from YOU guys and hear YOUR "bios". So email me when you get a chance. Take care and God bless you all. Jimmy Willis
